About CHS

The Cavendish Historical Society (CHS) was formed in 1955 and became a 501 © 3 non-profit in 1990. CHS's mission is, "To preserve the history of Cavendish in order to inspire both residents, second home owners and visitors, to help shape the town's future with a greater appreciation and shared heritage, and to foster a deeper appreciation of the important historical role that Cavendish has played in state, national and world history."

Starting with the mapping of the Crown Point Road in 1955/56, CHS has had an unbroken record of providing programs and activities. In 1969, the town voted to lease the old Town Hall to CHS for use as a museum. Build in the 19th century, the Museum is located on Rt 131 in Cavendish. Open Sundays, from 2-4 pm, from mid June until mid October, admission is free.

CHS is run by a board of Directors and five standing committees- Archives, Budget, Building (Museum), Fundraising/membership and Programs. Committee membership includes residents, second homeowners and former residents who live in other parts of the country.
