Cavendish Historical Society Museum
The CHS Museum is located on Main Street, Route 131 in Cavendish. Built in the 19th century, the building was originally designed as a church. It has served many purposes including town hall and recreational facility. Open Sundays, from 2-4 pm, from late June to mid October, admission is free. The Museum is open at other times by appointment.
The collection features farm tools, household utensils, costumes, weaving implements, textiles, photographs, items used or made in Cavendish, as well as a number of publications. There is also a number of items available to assist people interested in tracing their Cavendish family genealogy.
In front of the Museum is the Cavendish War Memorial. Donated by Redfield Proctor in 1883, the monument was dedicated to those who served in the Civil War. Today the names of those Cavendish residents who have served in subsequent wars have been added to the fence that surrounds the monument.
